It is reported that, the Yunnan Aluminum’s mega aluminum electrolyzor of CHYG-30 applied new technique, new materials and new technology in design, baking, and controls etc, setting up a highly-efficient, energy-saving producing line of 200 thousand tons of aluminum, marking a new level of domestic aluminum technology.

The Vice GM of Yunnan Aluminum Company, Mr. Dong Shiyi, introduced that the global devleopment of electrolyzing technology mainly reflects in the productivity of the sustaining growth of electrolyzors. Domestic development is relatively later than the western countries, and in the 1970s, the company used the 20 kiloampere electrolyzors, which could only produce a little over 100 kilo of aluminum but consumed over 1,700 kWh of electricity to produce a ton of aluminum, causing heavy pollution. Meanwhile, the foreign companies strictly sealed off their technology of 30 kiloampere electrolyzor to china.

Guiyang Aluminum Magnesium Design and Research Institute began to develop the electrolyzor that has high-quality, low-cost, low consumption and low pollution. Based on the 28 kiloampere electrolyzor, the second phase of upgrade replaced the 60 kiloampere bakeries with 300 kiloampere ones. In June 2005, the experts from China Nonferrous Metal Industry Association assessed the project of “Yunnan Aluminum CHYG-30 Pre-Bakering Electrolyzor Technology”, and consistently agreed that the project had reached international level. For example, it can enlarge capacity from 25 thousand tons per year to 200 thousand tons per yerar, and reduce 200 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to about 70 million RMB, calculated with average price of 0.37 yuan per kWh.Reporters found that there wasn’t any pungent odor or dust in the factory even when 248 electrolyzors were running, and the whole factory was clean. Dong said, in the past, it was full of dust everywhere, and now, through the collecting technology, 98% of the dust was collected. The project won the first prize of the technology progress of Yunnan Province.

Insiders believed that since the CHYG-20 was put into use since April 2004, the equipment had been running normally, and key technical indicators, such as the temperature, voltage, efficiency, were good, and the electricity efficiency is over 94%. “If the technology was utilized by all of the large aluminum factories, it will help to reduce lots of money, resources, and pollutants, and raise interntional competitiveness.” Dong said.
